How To Configure VPN on iPhone or iPad

Some people find it very hard to configure VPN on iPhone or iPad, but let me tell you it is quite an easy thing to do. Before going on how to configure VPN on iPhone or iPad, let us clarify what exactly is VPN and for what it is used.

How To Configure VPN on iPhone or iPad

Once you are signed in, you’ll be given permission to add a VPN configuration to your iPhone. Select Allow to have the VPN configured on your iPhone automatically.

The next step is to enter your passcode or Touch ID to give permission to change your VPN settings. Enter your passcode, or activate Touch ID. Now your VPN is enabled, you can now select and connect it at any time without having to open the app again.

  • Tap on Settings from your Home screen.
  • Select General.
  • Next, tap on a VPN.
  • Select the VPN client you want to use.
  • Toggle the Status switch on.

Always after you’re done using the VPN, dont forget to turn it off, specially if you’re on a free, limited plan.

How to manually configure a VPN on iPhone or iPad

When you have your login info already, you can always go with manually configuring a VPN client on iPhone or iPad. Follow the below steps to do it:

  • Tap on Settings from your Home screen.
  • Select General.
  • Next, tap on a VPN.

  • Next, tap on Type.
  • Then select your VPN type from IKEv2, IPSec, or L2TP.
  • If you change your mind, you can tap on Cancel in the upper left corner to go back.

  • The next step is to enter the VPN settings information including description, server, and remote ID.
  • Enter your authentication login including your username (or certificate), and password.
  • If you use a proxy, enable it by tapping Manual or Auto, depending on your preferences.
  • Tap Done.
  • Toggle the Status switch on, under VPN Configurations.
