In a new recent event, Apple launched a fresh handful of products. But the people were more excited about Apple iPhone 14 Pro. Because out of the four devices launched, iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max contain the new Bionic A16 chip. However, the iPhone 14 & iPhone 14 Plus share pretty much the same look as last year’s iPhone 13. Apple is finally listening to its users, and they worked on notches in the new iPhone 14 Pro. They cut down the notch with a hole punch camera module which apple calls Digital Island. However, it’s a bummer that iPhone 14 still comes with the old clunky bezels, which is kind of a letdown for the people who were planning to buy it. Let’s dive into a detailed review to make you decide whether you should buy this new iPhone 14 Pro or not.
With the new notch, Apple introduced some new and exciting features called Dynamic Island. It integrates seamlessly into the hole punch notch and can show updates of various activities in the form of a pill shape notification. Apple also introduced a new 42MP camera in iPhone 14 Pro, which is a significant change. Apple also claims the iPhone 14 series has a noteworthy battery life upgrade compared to the last-generation iPhones. Let’s dive into a detailed review to make you decide whether you should buy this new iPhone 14 Pro or not.
The new Apple iPhone 14 Pro has a base price of $999, around £1,099, for 128GB of storage. However, this price can go up if you opt for higher storage options, up to 1TB.
The preorders for the iPhone 14 series have already started from the 9th of September, 2022. However, they are fully available from 16th September 2022. Pro model prices are quite high compared to standard iPhone 14 models. The camera was the primary reason to buy the Pro versions in the past, but it’s so much more this year. Therefore, if you can stretch your budget more, you should go for iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Apple introduces a handful of new features for users’ safety. Car crash detection is one of the new features which detects if the user gets into a car crash, and it automatically sends the user’s location to the dedicated contact number entered by the user. Also, iPhone 14 Pro comes with an upgraded Dual-core accelerometer which makes the Car Crash detection feature work more flawlessly.
Apple has included Emergency SOS via satellite, a feature that allows the iPhone 14 to establish a connection to satellites for communication in emergency circumstances where WiFi and cellular networks are unavailable. Emergency SOS via satellite operates in open regions with minimal trees and allows people to text emergency responders. It’s free for two years and works in the United States and Canada. When hiking or camping in distant places, you may utilize satellite internet to broadcast your position with friends and family through Find My. Moreover, the iPhone 14 Pro variants include 5G connectivity and a new Qualcomm X65 modem. Because carriers now employ eSIM, iPhone models in the United States come without a physical SIM card.
In iPhone 14 Pro, you get only eSIM options now. Because carriers now employ eSIM, iPhone models in the United States come without a physical SIM card. In these new series, Apple has altogether removed the physical sim. Apple’s presentation also shows the eSIM setup detail to help new iPhone users. Therefore, removing the physical sim means there’s no extra port on the sides, and it kinda looks clean & elegant. However, the other utility buttons like power, volume rockers, and silent switch are placed in precisely the same place as iPhone 13 Pro. Sadly, Apple still comes with a lighting port as a charging port rather than USB-C.
Looking from the back side, you won’t be able to differentiate between iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro. They share nearly the same design from the backside. It includes the stainless steel band that wraps around the back and front of the glass, as well as the now instantly identifiable square, three-camera array with the tiny LiDAr sensor. Talking about dimensions, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro are different in somewhat manner. The iPhone 14 Pro is thicker and longer than the iPhone 13 Pro, measuring 147.5mm x 71.5mm x 7.85mm. It’s also 2 grams heavier at 206 grams. The differences are on paper. However, if you hold these devices in hand, you won’t be able to feel any difference at all.
You notice a significant change when you turn the phone to the display side. That awkward old notch is gone. In its stead is a broad pill-shaped notch that houses the Face ID sensors and the front camera, dubbed Dynamic Island by Apple. It’s sleek, discreet, and a significant change from the usual, delivering something unique. More importantly, it is helpful in many ways.
In our Apple 14 Pro review, next thing to take into consideration is the display. While in the display, Apple has no significant changes compared to iPhone 13 Pro. It has the same Super Retina XDR OLED screen with the same 460ppi. It offers a resolution of 2556 x 1179, slightly upgraded from the last-generation iPhone 13 Pro, which offered a resolution of 2532 x 1170. Moreover, the significant upgrade lies in the screen brightness, reaching a peak of 2000 nits luminance. iPhone 14 series are the only phone which offers this much brightness to date.
Finally, the feature which Apple users have been waiting for is here. Apple has introduced the Always on Display feature with iPhone 14 Pro & Pro Max. Android introduced Always On Display way back in 2016, and since then, Apple users have been requesting this cool display feature. Also, this feature adapts beautifully with the Digital island notch. Many elements are present, including True Tone, HDR support, and Apple’s Haptic Touch. ProMotion is also on board, but with an adaptive refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz as opposed to 10Hz & 120Hz as it was with the iPhone 13 Pro.
The most noticeable screen update, though, is the removal of the notch. Instead, we got the intriguing Dynamic Island. Dynamic Island is a little moted region on the Super Retina XDR OLED display of the iPhone 14 Pro. It’s not a notch now; it looks like a punch hole with a pill shape, in our opinion. The pill-shaped Dynamic Island is a customizable portion that displays tiny symbols within the space and draws information from an open app, such as Apple Music or Clock. If you run two apps, Dynamic Island will divide, but pushing and holding on to it will expand and give you greater control. A second press takes you to the full app version that is now filling the area.
iPhone 14 & 14 Plus still comes with the old Bionic 15 Chip from the last-gen iPhone 13 series. However, iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max only got the upgrade in terms of processor. iPhone 14 Pro comes with an A16 Bionic Chip, 4nm, with a 6-core CPU. Of these six cores, two are performance cores, and the remaining four are efficiency cores. It also offers a 5-core GPU and a 16-core Neutral Engine.
The most significant change in terms of hardware is the Sattelite Connectivity. This feature will allow you to contact emergency services via text when there is no phone coverage. For the time being, this is only accessible in the United States and Canada, and you receive two years free.
Coming to storage options, as we all know, Apple doesn’t offer microSD support for extra storage. Therefore, users have to depend on the storage options provided by Apple. iPhone 14 Pro offers the same storage options as iPhone 13 Pro. It starts with 128GB, 256GB, 512GB & 1TB. If you’re buying iPhone 14 Pro in the US, then you won’t get any physical SIM support, only eSIM. This could be a problem if you travel a lot outside the US. However, if you buy the iPhone 14 Pro outside the US, you will get a nano SIM option.
Coming to the camera section is where Apple has made a significant in years. The camera of the Apple iPhone 14 Pro has undergone significant improvements. The iPhone 14 Pro, like the previous year’s Pro model, features a triple camera configuration. The 14 Pro features an improved 48MP main sensor with an f/1.78 aperture rather than the 12MP lens that has been available for some time.
This new main lens can take stunning images with excellent detail and clarity. It’s a Quad Pixel sensor, which combines four pixels to get superior low-light performance from a bigger sensor. The ultra wide-angle camera has also been improved, with 12 megapixels and an f/2.2 aperture, while the telephoto has 12 megapixels and an f/2.8 aperture.
When it comes to zoom length, Apple did not break any new ground. It offers 3X optical zoom, whereas Samsung offers 10x optical zoom on the Samsung Galaxy S 22 Ultra. However, with the 3x zoom, also Apple delivers crisp and clear photos. It appears to use the entire 48MP sensor and focuses on the center 12MP for optical-quality 2x & full-quality 4K footage. However, the Bionic A16 chip does the actual work: processing the images and giving quality output.
We weren’t able to test battery life in real-time. However, Apple claims that iPhone 14 Pro can withstand 23 hours of video playback on a single charge. This does sound good, but we all know about the battery life of iPhones on how they perform in real life. So the real potential of battery life can only be acquired after testing it in real life. Sadly, Apple’s rapid charging skills have not been improved. If you use a 20W charger, you can still obtain a 50% charge in 30 minutes. Users were hoping for fast charging on iPhones this time.
The Apple iPhone 14 Pro offers iOS 16, which we can also find on other previous-generation iPhones. However, iOS 16 offers a whole new bunch of software features. Also, the system applications like Messages, Mail, and Photos get changed too. iOS 16 isn’t limited to the iPhone 14 Pro. The software is accessible on iPhone 8 and beyond; however, the iPhone 14 Pro has a few more capabilities, including Dynamic Island and certain photography functions, such as ProRAW.
The iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be released on September 16, while the iPhone 14 Plus will be available on October 7. However, the Pre-Orders for iPhone 14 Pro already started on the 9th of September.
The camera is the most noticeable difference between the Pro and ordinary iPhone 14 versions. At the same time, both offer additional features, such as the Photonic Engine for increasing detail in low-light situations and Action Mode for more steady video while on the go; the Pro adds a new 48MP wide sensor.
As per our iPhone 14 Pro review, the all-new Apple iPhone 14 Pro is undoubtedly a unique-looking iPhone that stands different from the old-generation clunky notch phone. It has a new design, camera upgrades, processing upgrades, display enhancements, and the unique Dynamic Island function. All these improvements and adjustments have positioned the iPhone 14 Pro to be the most significant iPhone the business has ever produced, and the Pro is now undeniably Pro. However, if you were planning to buy iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Plus, in our opinion, you should kick up your budget a bit high and should go for iPhone 14 Pro.
