Someone is making PowerToys Awake a lot easier to use, and you can help test it

One of the coolest parts of PowerToys is that it’s never “done.” People are always making features, tweaking tools, and then going back to the previous features and adjusting them to make them better. There’s always something new going on with PowerToys, which is good, because it’s honestly an essential part of any Windows power user’s repertoire.

However, new adjustments don’t just get added right away. The developers need to pitch an idea, show off a prototype demoing how it works, and gain people’s approval. Such is the case for this proposal for a new look and feel to PowerToys Awake, and I really hope it makes it in.

PowerToys Awake’s proposed design makes it a lot easier to use

And it looks fantastic, too

As spotted by Neowin, Niels Laute, the project manager for PowerToys, has uploaded a proposed plan for PowerToys Awake. Awake is a handy tool that prevents Windows from sleeping for a set amount of time without needing to dig through the Windows power settings.

Here’s how Laute describes it:

I’ve been tinkering with some ideas for Awake and wanted to float a proposal for a redesigned flyout experience. And I’d really love your feedback before we go too far!

Today, changing Awake’s behavior means digging into Settings or the tray menu. The proposal is a lightweight flyout that surfaces the most-used actions right where you need them, plus a couple of new capabilities.

You can check it out in the video above. It basically makes keeping Windows awake a lot easier. You can bring it up from the taskbar, quickly set it up using pre-set times, or get more advanced by setting up an exact date and time for when it turns off.

It’s not officially out yet, but if you’d like to try it for yourself and give Laute some precious feedback, head over to the GitHub page for instructions.
