Latest beta firmware update in AirPods, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max!


Apple now updated all of the existing AirPods models with the most recent beta software. The 3rd Gen AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max will use firmware version 5A5304a. This will succeeds version 5A5282d. You may receive a firmware upgrade today if you have a set of AirPods and have been using the beta version.

Apple claims the Auto-Switching function, which automatically enables the AirPods to switch among your devices. It is based on the one which is presently playing music and has been improved with firmware version 5A5304a. The update also includes the customary batch of security patches and performance upgrades.

This update is only available to developers who can download version 5A5304a from the Apple Developer website. Since it is a firmware beta, you need an iPhone operating the most recent developer beta of iOS 16. A Mac is running the most recent developer beta of macOS Ventura. And the Xcode 14 beta to install the beta.

In addition to improvements to Auto-Switching, the beta firmware includes stability and bug fixes. However, Apple does not explicitly state how the update enhances Automatic Switching.

For the second and third-generation AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max, the most recent beta build is accessible. Apple has never released a beta firmware for the standard AirPods. And the high-end over-the-ear headphones before. Earlier beta versions were only accessible with AirPods Pro.

Since the software support for the original generation of AirPods has most likely ended. They are not supported.

How to install beta firmware in your AirPods?

You can not download the firmware if you do not have an Apple Developer account. You cannot uninstall the program. Additionally, you should be aware that once you’ve set up an AirPods Pro beta, there is no turning back. According to Apple’s beta firmware guidance, the beta will be changed after a new public firmware version for AirPods Pro is released. You will, however, continue to get fresh beta updates in the interim.

The AirPods Pro firmware also has some requirements. Both an iPhone running the iOS 15 beta software and a Mac operating the Xcode 13 beta are required. Your AirPods Pro also need to be fully charged.

Steps to Install AirPods beta firmware

If you’re prepared to proceed, firstly download the AirPods Pro beta firmware package by doing the following actions:

  1. From Apple’s Developer site, download the iOSAirPodsProSeed.mobileconfig file to your iPhone.
  2. Whichever device (iPhone or Apple Watch) you wish to install the profile on may be requested of you. Pick iPhone.
  3. On your iPhone, launch the Settings app, then select General.
  4. Click Device Management & VPN.
  5. Tap Install after choosing the AirPods Pro beta firmware file you just downloaded.
  6. Enter the passcode for your iPhone.
  7. Tap Install one again after reading the conditions of the profile.
  8. Then choose Done.

AirPods beta firmware: Verification

Check if your AirPods Pro is currently connected to your iPhone, then use a Lightning cable to connect the iPhone to your Mac. Now take these actions:

  1. On your Mac, launch the Xcode 13 beta program.
  2. Open Settings on your iPhone, then select Developer.
  3. Tap Beta Firmware for Prerelease.
  4. Then tap to allow automatic beta software upgrades while selecting your AirPods Pro.
  5. Read and understand the onscreen guidance for details on how to get the update.


This AirPods Pro upgrade is a work in progress. Just like Apple’s beta firmware for other devices. You could run across glitches and further instability. According to Apple, the first AirPods Pro beta does not have the newer Versions. Like Boost function or configurable Transparency mode.
