On September 7th, 2022, Apple launched four models of its iPhone 14, which it has done for many years. Last year Apple launched four models of iPhone 13. This includes iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. However, this year Apple has discontinued its “Mini” models. Despite discontinuing one of the models, Apple has launched four models, introducing the new “Plus” model. This year iPhone 14 includes iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Plus, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. This blog will compare the iPhone 14 vs iPhone 14 Pro.
Furthermore, Apple has provided only two screen sizes this year, i.e., 6.1″ and 6.7.” iPhone 14 and 14 Pro come in 6.1″, whereas iPhone 14 Plus and 14 Pro max have 6.7″ sizes. So, many users are confused about what to choose between iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. So here we are with a detailed comparison to help you choose better. In our iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 14 Pro comparison, you will see how Apple has distinguished these two models.
This year Apple has strategized its models differently as compared to previous years. Earlier, there was no significant distinction between their standard and Pro models other than 120 Hz refresh rate, stainless steel frame, and LiDAR sensor. However, Apple has introduced a significant distinction between its standard and Pro version, which we will discuss below. These significant changes will make your decision quick.
What will you see here?
Overall Comparison
This year, Apple has launched its iPhone 14 lineup. In terms of design, display and battery life, iPhone 14 remains the same as its predecessor, iPhone 13. The slight difference between current and previous iPhones is that iPhone 14 now features a chip used in iPhone 13 Pro Max last year. Thus giving it a slight edge on performance. Also, Apple has now introduced Action Mode and Photonic Engine, which will enhance your videography and photography experience, respectively. Also, there is a lot of improvement in terms of brightness as at maximum, the brightness can reach up to 1200 nits which is very good while using the phone in sunlight. |
Apple has made the Pro series incredibly good as we now have many distinctive features to consider when deciding to buy between iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Pro. iPhone 14 Pro comes with a new Dynamic Island, a new pill-shaped cutout instead of the old notch in previous iPhones. Also, Pro models feature a 48MP primary sensor, 12MP ultra-wide sensor and 12MP telephoto sensor. It also offers the latest A16 Bionic chip, which is way faster and more efficient than last year's A15 Bionic chip. Apart from all distinguishing features, it includes all other features which are in iPhone 14 with just a $200 difference between their pricing. Also, Pro models can go up to 2000 nits brightness which is an excellent upgrade. |

Price and Availablity
In this comparison of iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 14 Pro, the first thing to consider before buying one of these is their pricing. Apple has kept the pricing similar to last year’s iPhone 13 lineup. iPhone 14 starts at $799 with the starting variant of 128GB and goes up to 512GB, while iPhone 14 Pro start at $999 with the same starting variant of 128GB which goes up to 1TB variant. As you see, there’s a difference of $200 between these two models, which is worth it as you will get many extra features this time in the Pro model.
Pre-booking has already begun on 9th September for All iPhone 14 models. All models, excluding iPhone 14 Plus, will be available in the store from 16 September. You will be able to see iPhone 14 Plus from October 7 as it won’t be shipped until then.
Design
As discussed earlier, iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro have approx similar dimensions. But their design is the first area of distinction in our iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 14 Pro comparison. The standard iPhone 14 model looks identical to its predecessor, the iPhone 13, whereas Apple has keenly worked on the design of its Pro versions this time around. The Pro models have many extra features and a newly launched front camera design. iPhone 14 Pro from the back looks like iPhone 13 Pro, but the camera module seems more significant as now Apple is providing a 48MP primary sensor.
Now let’s discuss a significant change in iPhones since the launch of the iPhone X. At last, Apple has said goodbye to the notch. Now, Apple has come with the all-new pill shape front camera design, named “Dynamic Island.” At first glance, it seems pretty cool. This enhanced pill-shaped cutout, or, say, Dynamic Island, beautifully fits between an informative panel and provides notifications and alerts as if being a part of the software. In terms of design, we go with iPhone 14 Pro as it provides a new experience. However, iPhone 14 also has excellent design despite being repetitive.
Display
The next thing to consider in our iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 14 Pro comparison is the Display. While talking about the display, iPhone 14’s display has no change compared to iPhone 13. It has a display size, i.e., 6.1″. iPhone 14 Pro also comes with the same size of 6.1″. However, the iPhone 12 Plus and Pro Max have a larger display size of 6.7″. All models come with Super Retina XDR and an OLED panel with Haptic Touch, True Tone, and HDR support. However, as Apple has more focused on Pro models, they provide a bit extra.
Like last year’s iPhone 13 Pro models, this year’s Pro model also features a Pro Motion refresh rate. However, recent models have a low minimum refresh rate of 1 Hz, which is excellent for saving quick draining of battery. After many years of user feedback, Apple has finally released Always-on Display which shows time and important information when your phone is dormant. However, this feature is specific to Pro models only (which is now on every Android device).
Now, if we discuss the screen resolution, there’s no major difference between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro. They both seem quite similar with just a margin of difference. iPhone 14’s screen resolution is 2532 x 1170 (460 PPI), while the iPhone 14 Pro’s screen have 2556 x 1179 (460 PPI). This year Apple promises to have brighter displays than ever as its standard models will feature 1200 nits of maximum brightness while the Pro models can go up to 2000 nits of maximum brightness.
Cameras
Apple users are always keen on its camera quality, and Apple also keeps them happy by providing them with more than they desire in terms of camera quality. iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus comes with two rear cameras, i.e., one primary wide camera and one ultra-wide camera. iPhone 14 and 14 Plus get a camera similar to that of iPhone 13 with a little wider aperture of f/1.5 instead of f/1.6. So overall, they have a 12MP primary sensor with pixels of 1.9 microns, 1.5 aperture, and, as declared, 49% more low light performance.
While iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max got a massive upgrade in terms of camera.
Pro model camera
Apple now provides a 48MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor with a wide aperture, and a 12MP telephoto sensor in its Pro models. iPhone 14 Pro model users can now click with 3x optical zoom because of its 12MP telephoto lens, which is absent in iPhone 14 and 14 Plus as they don’t feature a telephoto lens. Pro models also feature the ProRes feature, which allows users to click 48MP raw photos.
Apple announced the all-new Action mode, which will feature in all four models. This feature will enhance the ability of video stabilization as Apple promises that users will not require a gimbal to shoot a video from now on. There’s also a newly introduced Photonic Engine in the iPhone 14 lineup, which will use AI to enhance low-light photography. The regular features will include Portrait Mode with Depth Control, Photographic Styles, Night Mode, and Cinematic Mode.
Software
No difference is found in the area of software in all four models of the iPhone 14 lineup. They all run on iOS 16, the most recent Apple operating system version. With iOS 16, one can customize their lock screen and set up multiple ones, like focus mode. One can apply their choice of wallpaper, clock, and widgets to their lock screen. Moreover, now one can edit their sent messages in iMessage, and various other improvements are introduced. So, there’s no distinction in software between iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro.
Battery Life and charging
Our blog will be incomplete if we will not discuss battery life when reviewing an Apple product. Apple usually doesn’t talk about battery capacities, so there are no exact figures to examine the battery life. However, for its new iPhone range, Apple has said that its standard model, i.e., iPhone 14’s battery, can give up to 20 hours of video playback, while iPhone 14 Pro can give 26 hours of video playback. So there’s a wide gap between these two models’ battery performance. However, the figures can differ when it comes to real-life use.
Last year iPhone 13 Pro Max had an excellent battery performance, and as Apple is focusing on this aspect too, we can assume an excellent battery performance for iPhone 14 lineup too. All four models support 20W fast charging, which, if we believe an official figure, can charge 0% to 50% in just 30 minutes. So in this comparison also iPhone 14 Pro is a pure winner.
Performance
After the camera, display, and design, this is the area where things differ. Until this year, Apple has provided the same chip in all its models, but they have different thoughts this time. iPhone 14 got the old chip in iPhone 13 Pro last year. So obviously, it has more power than its predecessor, iPhone 13. Apple has installed its A15 bionic chip with a 5-core GPU in iPhone 14. This chip still has much to offer as it is very powerful, and last year, it beat Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip (But not by a considerable margin).
While if you look at iPhone 14 Pro models, Apple has installed its latest and most powerful data chip in them. iPhone 14 Pro models will feature an A16 Bionic chip with Penta core GPU, Hexa core CPU, and 16 core Neural Engine. This was all built on a 4 nm process. So clearly, the Pro models will perform comparatively better than the standard versions.
Conclusion
We can see a significant difference between these two models in our comparison of the iPhone 14 vs. the iPhone 14 Pro. Apple has made minor upgrades to its iPhone 14 as compared to its predecessor, while when it comes to iPhone 14 Pro, Apple has made ample changes in its appearance by providing Dynamic Island performance by installing an A16 Bionic Chip, 48MP primary sensor, etc. It’s like Apple has poured the whole bucket of its updates on the Pro Models. After considering this, we came to pricing, which also doesn’t have that huge gap. There’s only a $200 gap between these two models, which is worth spending if one gets this much of an upgrade. In simple terms, the iPhone 14 Pro is out and out a winner when compared with the iPhone 14 standard model.
