Trump Signs Executive Order on AI Cybersecurity
President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday aiming to enhance the AI-powered cybersecurity of government systems. This regulation establishes a framework for the voluntary testing of cutting-edge artificial intelligence models equipped with advanced cyber capabilities.
The regulation encourages AI companies to engage in a benchmarking process to assess a model’s “advanced cyber capabilities” and decide whether it should be considered a “covered frontier model.”
The order, titled “Promoting Advanced Innovation and Security in the Field of Artificial Intelligence,” provides authorities with 30 to 60 days to address objections. Within the healthcare sector, the order expands protections for rural hospitals and other critical infrastructure. For rural hospitals, the Secretary of Homeland Security has 30 days to facilitate access to cybersecurity tools and services.
“Advanced AI capabilities strengthen our nation but also lead to new national security considerations that require coordinated action by all executive departments and agencies (agencies) and their components,” the order states. “As these capabilities continue to develop, my administration will continue to work closely with industry to ensure the best and safest technology is deployed quickly to address all threats to our country.”
Health Catalyst Sells Vitalware Business for $147 Million
Health Catalyst has entered into a definitive agreement to divest its mid-revenue cycle Vitalware business to Med-Metrix for a total consideration of $147 million in cash.
This divestiture allows Health Catalyst to shed a non-core asset and focus more sharply on core technology, driving AI-driven improvements across cost, clinical performance, and consumer performance for health systems, according to the company’s press release.
The net proceeds, along with cash on hand, will be used to fully repay and terminate a $160 million senior secured loan, which Health Catalyst expects will strengthen its balance sheet and provide financial flexibility.
“This is a major step forward for Health Catalyst. We are focusing our business on the areas in which we have the deepest conviction and we plan to put the capital structure in place to support our long-term strategy. Vitalware is a great company, and we are pleased to have found a partner in Med-Metrix that is well-positioned to drive it forward,” said Health Catalyst CEO Ben Albert in a statement.
Vitalware, founded in 2011 and acquired by Health Catalyst in 2020, provides software supporting a health system’s financial operations. Med-Metrix, a technology-enabled revenue cycle management company, stated that Vitalware’s platform and domain expertise would enhance its mid-revenue cycle offering and improve charge capture and coding accuracy, contributing to a measurable improvement in net revenue return for its customers.
The transaction will expand Med-Metrix’s technology-enabled revenue cycle platform, supporting its strategy of merging operator-led services with scalable software solutions. Vitalware’s leadership team and employees are expected to be integrated into Med-Metrix’s operations following the acquisition.
“Vitalware represents a natural extension of our platform,” Rob Wright, co-president of Med-Metrix, said in a statement. “By integrating their impressive software capabilities, we are better able to help providers improve reimbursement accuracy, manage compliance risks, and realize the full value of the care provided.”
The transaction is expected to close in 2026, subject to the satisfaction of certain specified closing conditions, including the expiration or termination of regulatory waiting periods.
Vida Health, Instacart Partner to Expand Access to Nutritious Food
Virtual cardiometabolic provider Vida Health is collaborating with Instacart to enhance access to nutritious food for Vida members nationwide.
Supported by Instacart Health Fresh Funds, which are category-specific grocery grants, the partnership aims to bridge the gap between health advice and healthy foods for members by connecting individuals to Instacart “with tools that provide a convenient, accessible way to implement Vida’s nutrition advice.”
The companies indicate that the partnership marks the beginning of a longer collaboration.
“Building healthier habits takes more than just information; it requires thoughtful, culturally relevant guidance and access to good food,” said Amy Mushlin, chief clinical and member service officer, in a statement. “By partnering with Instacart, the advice provided by nutritionists and trainers is now more immediately actionable for members to purchase groceries, making it easier for people to make impactful changes in their lives.”
AI Tools Increase Patient Confidence When Searching for New Providers: rater8
Patients searching for new providers are increasingly influenced by AI in their decision-making process, according to a new survey from rater8.
Thirty-six percent of respondents cited AI tools as an influence in provider selection, compared to 34 percent who cited Google and 32 percent who cited doctor recommendations.
For the 2026 Patient Choice Report, researchers surveyed nearly 1,000 adults in the United States. Other significant findings include:
- 55% of respondents have left a doctor because of online content, an increase of 15% between 2025 and 2026
- 39 percent of respondents cited AI tools as the biggest digital influence when switching providers last year
- Sixty percent of respondents encountered incorrect vendor information in AI, although 60 percent said they trusted AI summaries without further review
- 75 percent of respondents would not book with a provider rated less than four stars on review websites
“Patients hold healthcare providers to a higher standard than almost any other company, and that scrutiny now begins long before they even walk in the door,” said Evan Steele, founder and CEO of rater8, in a statement. “The practices that win through trust not only provide excellent care, they also present themselves accurately, respond visibly to reviews, and receive good reviews wherever patients search.”
Shriners Children’s and Shiftmed Work Together to Expand Access to Specialized Pediatric Care
AI-powered healthcare workforce platform Shiftmed and Shriners Children’s announced a partnership aimed at expanding on-demand support, strengthening workforce stability, and ensuring access to quality care.
As part of the partnership, the health system will leverage ShiftMed’s platform to build “dedicated community float pools” at its locations, the organizations stated in the announcement.
“As a leading pediatric subspecialty health system, our priority is to provide every child with exceptional, specialized care exactly when and where they need it,” Beverly Bokovitz, chief nursing officer of Shriners Children, said in a statement. “Partnering with ShiftMed to establish dedicated community float pools strengthens our ability to adapt flexibly and accurately to changing patient volumes. By deploying highly trained clinicians on-demand, we expand access, strengthen our presence in the communities we serve, and ensure children and families receive consistent, high-quality care without compromise.”
HSCC Releases Governance Framework for AI Cybersecurity
The Health Sector Coordinating Council (HSCC) Cybersecurity Working Group has published guidance to help healthcare organizations establish cybersecurity frameworks when implementing AI solutions.
The 87-page guide (PDF) addresses “unique cybersecurity and privacy challenges” associated with AI implementation in healthcare organizations, including protecting against adversarial threats, ensuring data privacy and integrity, securing the AI supply chain, and more.
John Riggi, national cybersecurity and risk advisor for the American Hospital Association (AHA), said in a statement that the guide is “a must-read” for all organizations, vendors, and suppliers.
“The secure-by-design and implementation recommendations offered in this guide will help mitigate unintended cybersecurity risks and consequences of AI use in healthcare and prevent adversarial exploitation of AI-related technical flaws,” Riggi said. “Mitigating AI cybersecurity risk is part of cybersecurity, and cybersecurity is patient safety.”
