On Tuesday 15 September, Apple held Apple Event 2020/Time Flies Event 2020 .The tagline of the event was Time Flies, which as expected was a fairly obvious reference to a new Apple Watch, but there was more up Apple’s sleeve than a Series 6 watch. The company also unveiled a cheaper Apple Watch, a new iPad Air, a new standard iPad and a bundled services offering that has the potential to increase subscribers to Apple TV+, Apple Music and other Apple services. Here we will see the exciting stuff that was launched at Apple Event 2020 /Time Flies Event 2020.
There were a lot of people hoping for a new iPhone, but the iPhone 12 was a no show at the event. Apple has already said that it is experiencing delays with the new handset, so the iPhone 12 event is expected to happen later this year, probably in October.

Apple Watch Series 6-Star of the show!
Yes, Apple launched the new Apple Watch Series 6 at Time Flies/Apple Event 2020.Let us see its main features.
A new blood oxygen sensor
The new version of the Apple Watch includes a new blood oxygen sensor that could help the battle against COVID-19, as well as asthma and heart failure. New sensors will be able to determine how much oxygen is in your blood just by shining a light on your wrist. Apple says that it will be effective whatever your skin color. It has 4 infrared rays which combine with advanced algorithms to show the oxygen level of blood in just 15 seconds.
Improved electrocardiogram ECG feature
Series 4 and 5 watches show ECG inconsistencies in the 100-120 heart beats per minute range.
New Wrist Bands–Solo Loop
There will also be new blue and red color options, a new gold stainless steel version and a graphite color option. To match you will be able to choose from a number of new wrist bands including a Solo Loop that is made from a silicon band and a braided Solo Loop made from 100 recycled polyester yarn. It’s a stretchable silicone loop with no clasp. It’s available in multiple sizes and comes in seven different colors. There’s also a braided Solo Loop available in five colors.
20% faster than the previous model
Apple claims it’s 20% faster than the previous model and the screen is apparently 2.5x brighter when outside. Apple also claims that the Watch’s screen is very good at adapting to brightness levels of the real world. The screen can get 2.5 times brighter outdoors and also has an always-on altimeter.
It will be on sale Friday 18 September starting at £379/$399.
- Powered by a new S6 chip.
- It is a dual-core processor based on the A13 Bionic in the iPhone 11.
- The Watch is available in 5 new colors, a blue aluminum, gold stainless steel, a graphite stainless steel, and also an Apple Watch Product Red model
Apple Watch SE
The Apple Watch SE is a cheaper version of the Apple Watch Series 6, sharing many of the same features. It comes in both cellular and Wi-Fi models. Apple also highlighted a new feature, Family Setup, which will allow kids and older adults to use Apple Watch without an iPhone.
However it does lack the Blood Oxygen sensor, the ECG, and the always on display, and the processor is the S5 from the Series 5 rather than the S6 found in the Series 6. Apple says it will be 2 times faster than the Apple Watch 3.
Where the Watch 6 price starts at $399 the new Watch SE starts at £269/$279. If that’s still too expensive for you Apple will continue to sell the Apple Watch 3 for £199/$199.
The Time Flies Event 2020 /Apple event 2020 wasn’t only about Watches. Apple also launched a brand new, new-look iPad Air with an A14 Bionic chip.
- The iPad Air now has a larger 10.9in display (up from 10.5in)
- Slimmer bezels.
- Bigger 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display with a 2360 x 1640 resolution.
- New 12MP rear camera, and a Touch ID sensor built into the on/off switch.
- No more Home button! It’s not just the screen size that’s changed.
- There are now five different color finishes with Green and Sky Blue joining Space Grey, Rose Gold and Silver.
- The new Air also features a USB-C port rather than a Lightning port.
- It works on the latest iPadOS14, it has the A14 Bionic chip, 6-Core CPU, 4-Core GPU, and a 16-Core neural engine
- There will be options for Wifi or Cellular or Wifi plus cellular.
The new iPad Air will be available to buy in October with prices starting at £579/$599.
8th generation iPad
Apple said that this standard model is the “most popular iPad”. If that’s the case we think the company has been doing its customers a disservice over the past year.
A12 Bionic Processor
We are glad to report that Apple has now rectified this and the new iPad sports an A12 Bionic processor. This means that the iPad now has the Neural Engine, which will help with advanced image processing and rendering and AR features. Unfortunately the iPad still only offers 32GB at the entry-level, which really isn’t enough.
- It works on the A12 Bionic chip, but the same iPadOS 14.
- Two versions, 32GB and 128GB.
- Supports Apple and third-party keyboard accessories as well as the 1st Gen Apple Pencil.
- Has the lightning connector. No USB -C port.
There’s good news for UK customers: US pricing remaining unchanged but there is a £20 price reduction in the UK. It now starts at £329/$329.
The Apple One is a single subscription for many of Apple’s services like iCloud, Apple Music, Apple News, iCloud, and the newly announced Fitness+.
There are various plans offering different bundles. For example you can subscribe to Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade and get 50GB of iCloud for £14.95/US$14.95 per month. There are also Family bundles. The ultimate bundle costs £29.95/US$29.95 per month and can be shared with six users. It includes: Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, iCloud (2TB), Apple News and the new Apple Fitness+ (coming later in 2020)
iOS 14, iPadOS 14, watchOS 7, tvOS 14
Apple usually releases the Golden Master (the final) beta of iOS 14 right after its September iPhone announcement. It’s likely that it will release it after its September 15 event, while once again going over the details of the new software. From there it’s another week until the general public gets updated to iOS 14.
Fitness+, a fitness service for Apple Watch
Apple is launching a new subscription service. Apple Fitness Plus.
It will be available in the Apple One subscription service, only under the Premier plan though.
There are 10 different workout types, including yoga, cycling, and dance, and the company says new workouts will be added every week. The service will launch before the end of the year. It will cost $9.99 per month, or you can subscribe for a full year for $79.99.
The service will connect Apple Watch users to trainers. Users can access a catalog of workout videos on iPhones, iPads or on an Apple TV, synced to an Apple Watch. New workout videos will be published weekly, and you’ll be able to see live stats from your Apple Watch on your iPad or iPhone while you work out.
Some amazing new devices were launched at Time Flies. No new iPhone launch though. As suspected we have to wait another month for it. But there were iPads, Apple Watches, the Apple One and much more. Tell us which device thrilled you and for which you are really excited.
